Coach Reveals Fears Over New 19-Year-Old Liverpool Starlet

Belgium coach Marc Wilmots has revealed to the press than he is relieved that Divock Origi has been loaned out from Liverpool this season, with the international boss having been fearful about how the player’s development would be impacted by his summer move, as reported by the Daily Express.

The Belgian international striker burst onto the scene at this summer’s World Cup, scoring from the bench, and soon went on to make a £10 million move to Brendan Rodgers’s side. As part of the agreement, however, he was loaned back to previous club Lille.

Given the relative strength of Liverpool’s forward line, and the fact that Origi remains unproven at club level, Wilmots has said that he is happy to see Origi back at Lille, for the benefit of his national side.

Wilmots told L’Equipe: “I was afraid that at a big club he would not play as much. There he may develop quietly.

“When he came into the national team, no one knew him. But I had great feedback on his mentality and his determination for someone of 19-years-old, when he moved up front.

“For him, the World Cup changed his situation. But I intend to keep his feet on the ground.”

The youngster has started the new season in sensational form for the French side, scoring two goals and providing a single assist since the new season began.

Liverpool Set To Reveal Signing Of World Cup Goalscoring Sensation

Liverpool are reportedly set to confirm the signing of Belgian striker Divock Origi on Monday after the Lille forward agreed a five year deal with the Anfield club, according to the Daily Star.

Origi made headlines during the summer after forcing his way into Marc Wilmots’ World Cup squad. He had an impact on the competition, scoring his first international goal after replacing Romelu Lukaku in Belgium’s second game of the competition. Origi bagged in the 88th minute to give the European side a 1-0 win against Russia.

The Belgian international passed a medical with the Merseyside team on Friday, having joined them on their United States tour, and would become their fifth signing of the summer, after the captures of Emre Can, Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana and Lazar Markovic.

Origi was also joined in Boston by Loic Remy, who is likely to confirm a move to Liverpool shortly, and they are also expected to sign Dejan Lovren from Southampton.

Adam Lallana has suffered an injury in training and is expected to miss the start of the new season.
