Arsenal Boost As Chelsea Hot Shot Struck By Injury

Chelsea have been dealt a blow prior to their key clashes against Sporting Lisbon and Arsenal, after it was revealed that their veteran striker Didier Drogba has been ruled out for the next two weeks, as reported by the Daily Star.

This means that he will miss tonight’s clash with Sporting in the Champions League, and Sunday’s important Premier League clash against title rivals Arsenal.

It was expected that Drogba would play a role tonight, having surprisingly started Chelsea’s clash with Schalke in the opening match of the group stage of Europe’s elite competition.

However, it is now believed that Spain international Diego Costa will start the game against Sporting tonight, despite his fitness woes.

The Brazilian born striker has had hamstring problems since moving to Stamford Bridge, and needs special attention to manage the issue.

This could come as a boost to Arsenal, who might find the striker to be below par as a result of his excursions against Sporting tonight.

Chelsea Legend On £32m Addition: “Exactly What We Needed”

Chelsea legend Didier Drogba has said that the club’s £32 million summer signing Diego Costa is exactly what the Stamford Bridge side needed to take them to another level, and that he feels the player has a lot of similarities to him from when he first arrived in the Premier League, as reported by the Daily Star.

Costa has begun his life in English football in immense form, scoring seven goals in only four appearances for the Blues. They have romped to top spot in the Premier League, winning all four of their games thus far, and the clinical nature of Costa’s play has played a big role in that.

Drogba also arrived this summer on a free transfer, returning to the club where he first made his name. Looking at his new teammate, he has praised him effusively, but also said that he has the potential to become a hero, given that he shares many of the same characteristics as the Ivorian striker.

He said: “Like me, he came to this level a little bit late. When I look at him, I can see the desire to win every challenge, to score goals. He’s very good.

“He’s hungry for goals and that’s the best thing for a team like us.

“I think for him to start the season in England, coming from Spain, which is a very different league, and to recreate the same thing he was doing at Atletico, is fantastic.

“He’s really good and he’s enjoying playing here and being with us.

“That’s the best feeling he could have. He’s the striker we needed this season.”

Chelsea Boss Mourinho Says £32m Hot Shot Is Not In The Right Condition

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has said that Diego Costa is not in a good enough condition to be able to play three matches a week for the Stamford Bridge club, with the Spain international striker’s well known hamstring issues forcing him out of yesterday’s tie with Schalke, as reported by the Daily Star.

The Blues ultimately drew the game against the German side, having taken the lead. A late goal from Dutch striker Klaas Jan Huntelaar meant that Mourinho’s men could only get a point from the first game in the Champions League group stage.

Costa was absent from the game, suffering from fitness problems, and while he can play some games, Mourinho is convinced that he cannot handle a full schedule.

The former Atletico Madrid man, who cost £32 million to sign from the La Liga champions this summer, has been in tremendous form since making his debut, scoring a staggering seven goals in only four games, but his fitness problems will come as an issue to Chelsea.

Mourinho said: “Diego Costa is not in condition to play three matches in a week. He has problems when he plays one game, he needs a week to recover.

“Today he was not in condition to play. We have to manage the situation until the moment he’s completely fine. I don’t know how long that will be.

“There was frustration tonight because we tried everything to win the game. Their goal was a counter-attack where we made two mistakes.

“One was not to make a foul immediately when we had the chance for that.

“The other one was the fact I told my players 20 times that Julian Draxler wants to come inside off his right foot. So we have to close and press his right foot. So there was also a mistake in the box.”
