Liverpool New Boy: “We Need To Improve”

Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren has admitted that the Reds have to improve in the clash against Real Madrid, or they will suffer the consequences, as reported by the Daily Star.

Real are the reigning Champions League winners, and despite travelling to Anfield without the ultra talented Gareth Bale, Los Blancos still have a vast array of world class players available to them for the match on Wednesday night.

Lovren was involved against Queens Park Rangers on Sunday, which Liverpool won 3-2.

Despite picking up the three points, Lovren has admitted that the players received little optimism because of the game, having played so badly.

Liverpool only won the game as a result of two own goals given to them through mistakes by QPR’s defenders.

They led twice going into injury time but conceded two simple equalisers.

Raheem Sterling rescued the game for them by breaking well from a QPR free kick before hitting Steven Caulker with a cross, which rebounded into the net.

“I was glad when the QPR game was over because I think one minute more and it would have been 3-3,” said Lovren.

“It’s the first time in my career I was unhappy after the game, even though we won, because we didn’t play good.

“We need to improve and play more like a team. QPR was not an easy game, but one that we should have seen out comfortably, especially after taking the lead.

“We need to be better and in our next game against Real Madrid we need to show more.

“We will not play like that against Real Madrid, you can be sure of that.

“We will be better. We cannot play like this because we know what we can expect from Real Madrid.

“Their players, we know who they are and we will prepare a little bit different.

“We need to be more compact, to run more, we need to be like one player on the pitch, all together, to breath the same.

“We have amazing individual players, but we need to show it like a team.

“It’s not daunting facing Real Madrid, it’s a pleasure to play against these players. I am not afraid. No-one in our team is afraid.

“We respect their players, but we will show something completely different on Wednesday.”

£20m Liverpool Star Reveals Immense Pride At Playing

Liverpool’s £20 million summer acquisition Dejan Lovren has revealed his incredible sense of pride at joining the Anfield club this summer, and that he feels the same sense of pride whenever he plays for the Merseyside team, as reported by the Daily Star.

He also spoke about how he felt the first time he heard the Liverpool fans sing You’ll Never Walk Alone, their famous anthem, when he made his debut for the club against his former side. Lovren has admitted that he felt chills when he heard the Kop sing the well known tune.

Lovren said: “I had chills throughout my body.

“It’s not just the first game either, it’s every game.

“The best thing as a Liverpool player is hearing ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ every time. It’s a great honour.

“It’s a dream to play at Anfield. I touch the ‘This is Anfield’ sign with my left hand.

“I’m really proud about everything with Liverpool, not just the Champions League.

“I want to win as many trophies as I can. I would like to become a legend here.”

Lovren appeared in the Champions League for Liverpool for the first time on Tuesday night, as the Anfield club managed a 2-1 win against Bulgarian champions Ludogorets.

Mario Balotelli got the Reds off the mark in the game, scoring in the 80th minute, but a late equaliser threatened to cost Brendan Rodgers’s side the points. An injury time penalty from captain fantastic Steven Gerrard gave them a vital win.

New boy Dejan Lovren has declared that Liverpool is “more than a club” in his first interview since signing with the Anfield outfield, as reported by the club’s official website.

The Croatian international finally completed his long speculated move to Liverpool late on Sunday night, having undergone a medical on Saturday, and is expected to fly out and join Brendan Rodgers’s side in Boston this week, to begin his pre-season preparations with his new side.

Lovren is Liverpool’s fifth signing of the summer and the third to join from Southampton after the additions of Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana. Lazar Markovic and former Leverkusen man Emre Can are the other two signings made by Rodgers ahead of Liverpool’s new season.

He professed his excitement, saying: “We have millions and millions of supporters – Liverpool is more than a club.

“It’s a dream come true. I’m happy and glad to be here; I’m proud and can’t wait to start.

“I’m most looking forward to Anfield, of course.

“I played there last season in front of the crowd singing ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’. That is something very special for every player, every sportsman and every fan. I can’t wait to get started.”

The move for the defender is expected to cost the club £20 million, with Liverpool having bowed to Southampton’s demands in order to get their man. The spending at the Merseyside club is expected to continue, despite the recent news that Loic Remy’s move has collapsed after he failed a medical on Sunday.
