Ex-Liverpool Star: 23-Year-Old Arsenal Signing May Be The Best Of The Summer

Former Liverpool star Michael Owen has called Arsenal’s £16 million purchase of Danny Welbeck possibly the signing of the summer, especially now that he will be able to play as the main striker at the Emirates Stadium, as reported by the Daily Star.

Owen played with Welbeck during his unsuccessful spell at Manchester United, and he was pleased to see him score two for the England national side, where Owen was a key player in the past, against Switzerland on Monday.

Welbeck made a shock deadline day switch to north London for £16 million, and with the injury suffered by Olivier Giroud, the former Man Utd hitman is now expected to play in the central role that he has craved for so long.

Owen himself feels as though Welbeck being granted this opportunity will finally allow him to reach the heights that he is capable of.

He said: “He has always had doubters and I can understand why but I have always been a big fan of Danny’s.

“I trained with him for three years at Manchester United and he can really play, no question.

“People may complain about his goals ratio at Man United – but try getting in the team there.

“I had a good try with Robin van Persie, Wayne Rooney, Chicharito there – there are so many good players.

“A lot of the time when Danny did play he played on the left or on the right.

“As his England record suggests, when he is played in the middle he can certainly score goals.

“I think he is a pretty good buy for Arsenal. They are the big winners here, with Danny himself. I can see him really improving.

“With Arsenal I think he will be given that chance to play in the middle and I think it could be one of the signings of the summer.”

Rio Ferdinand previously called Man Utd “mad” to have let Welbeck leave.

Huge £1.5m Payout By Man Utd To Departed Star Revealed!

New Arsenal signing Danny Welbeck received a huge £1.5 million pay-off from Manchester United to secure his move to the Emirates Stadium, as reported by the Daily Star.

Welbeck completed a £16 million move to the north London club on deadline day, with Arsenal needing to replace their injured striker Olivier Giroud.

However, in order to push the move through, Welbeck demanded a settlement was agreed on his contract at Man Utd, despite being pushed out of the door as part of Louis van Gaal’s Old Trafford rebuild.

The figure of £1.5 million was agreed between both parties as a settlement shortly before his move was completed.

There was also a slight delay on the move as Man Utd refused to sanction the move’s completion until they could confirm their own move to bring Radamel Falcao in on loan from Monaco.

The Colombian star required a thorough medical after his significant knee injury towards the end of last season.

Failed Spurs Transfer Could Cause Axe To Fall – Reports

Tottenham Hotspur technical director Franco Baldini could find himself sacked as a result of the club’s failure to bring Danny Welbeck into the club on deadline day, with the former Man Utd star moving to arch rivals Arsenal instead, as reported by the Metro.

Daniel Levy, chief executive of the club, is said to be furious over the failed move from the Italian transfer wizard, and sees his ability to miss out on the England international, who moved to Arsenal for £16 million, as being worthy of the chop.

Baldini could now be sacked as part of a move by the White Hart Lane club to reshuffle the club’s back room staff before the January transfer window, with the hope that they won’t make a similar mistake again.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino had insisted on the need for a new striker at the north London club prior to the deadline, and it seemed as though Welbeck would be joining them on loan until Arsenal trumped them at the death.

Spurs now have only Emmanuel Adebayor, Roberto Soldado and Harry Kane as strikers in their squad.
