No Way, Jose: Chelsea Manager Has No Fears Over New Signing

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has said that he cannot see Diego Costa having any problems adapting to life in the Premier League, as reported by AS.com.

The Brazil born Spanish international scored on his debut in pre-season for Chelsea, with fellow new signing Cesc Fabregas setting him up for a goal against Olimpija Ljubljana. While Mourinho says it is good for a new striker to score on their debut for a club, he does not feel as though the striker will suffer in the Premier League.

Mourinho also confirmed that he saw Costa as the priority in the transfer market this summer.

He said:  “Diego is made. Physically, mentally, Diego is an end-product. The Premier League is difficult and he knows; he is ready. To play with the Chelsea responsibilities and pressure, he knows and he is ready, too.

“I don’t think it will be difficult for him to succeed. I feel he is the right guy to help the team to win things. He just needs to work with the new players, the new team and the new coach to adapt his football to a different way of playing.”

Fabregas he pointed to as a great alternative to the midfield options already available to him at the club, and Mourinho also said that he personally spoke to the Spain international in an attempt to convince him to move to the Stamford Bridge club.

Mourinho added: “We clearly needed a player for the midfield with a different profile and we had two or three options, but, my club were fantastic with the way they killed the situation with Fabregas.

“What I did was explain to the player what I want from him, explain to the player what was waiting for him, tried to make the player believe that the move was the perfect move for him.

He also said that Filipe Luis gives him the left-back he felt the club needed, saying: “We always felt that Filipe was a very stable player and one which gave us multi-solutions because I can play Azpi right-back and Ivanovic centre-back because of Filipe.”

Vine: Costa And Fabregas Combine To Score On Chelsea Debuts

New Chelsea signings Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas have combined on their debuts to score the opening goal in their side’s second pre-season friendly of the summer.

Diego Costa joined the Blues from Atletico Madrid this summer, having won La Liga with them last season and reached the Champions League final. The powerful striker impressed last season, and changed his national allegiance ahead of this summer’s World Cup, making his way into Vincente del Bosque’s Spain squad for the tournament. Spain were eliminated in the group stages.

Fabregas, part of the same team at the World Cup, also moved to Chelsea this summer after sending a handful of seasons back with Barcelona, where he began his career. He moved to the London club despite holding great allegiance towards their cross-city rivals Arsenal. The talented midfielder is a significant addition at the club, and adds a significant level of creativity to their midfield.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho will have been delighted to have seen his new pair combine in such an effective fashion so early into their career at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea to make shock move for Fabregas

Spanish newspaper Marca are reporting that Chelsea are set to make a shock move for Cesc Fabregas, bringing him back to England’s capital.

After a difficult period at Barcelona, Fabregas is keen to return to the Premier League, where he made his name with Arsenal. Mourinho has been alerted to the Spanish international’s availability by his representative Darren Dein.

Chelsea will have to fight off staunch competition from Manchester United, however, who are willing to offer Fabregas a significant pay increase. Manchester United need to rebuild their squad under new manager Louis Van Gaal after a disastrous season saw them finish seventh. Fabregas currently earns €5 million a season at Barcelona, with Man Utd willing to pay upwards of €6 million to convince him to join. They are also preparing an offer of €40 million.

Chelsea, worried about Financial Fair Play, will not be able to offer the same salary, but can offer Fabregas Champions League football. It remains to be seen whether Arsenal may be interested in bringing him back to the Emirates Stadium, a move he would surely prefer to either. Arsenal can also sign Fabregas for only €36 million, due to a buy back clause.

Manchester City have also supposedly met with Dein.
