Arsenal Boss Wenger: My Motivation Is Stronger Than Ever

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has declared that his motivation is stronger than ever, despite the fact that tonight’s clash with Anderlecht marks his 65th birthday, as reported by the Daily Star.

Wenger’s side head into the tie in second in Group D, having followed their battering at the hands of Borussia Dortmund with a huge victory against Galatasaray.

The Galatasaray tie was particularly key to Wenger and his troops, as deadline day signing Danny Welbeck announced his arrival with a hat trick against the Turkish club.

They now face the Belgian giants in the third match in this season’s Champions League, but Wenger is insistent that he is purely focused on tonight’s game, rather than any possible birthday celebrations.

“I am not a celebrator of birthdays,” he said.

“I just think what is important is that my team performs well.

“Do I feel young? No, because my age is my age and you have to deal with that, but until now I am lucky to be in good shape – the desire and the motivation is stronger than ever.”

Arsenal will turn to third choice goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez for the game tonight, with both Wojciech Sczcesny and David Ospina unavailable for the tie.

Martinez conceded five goals the last time he played for Arsenal.

Arsenal Boss: Premier League Gap Is A “Big Concern”

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has admitted that the 11 point gap between the Gunners and Chelsea is a “big concern” for him, as reported by the Daily Star.

The north London side could only manage a 2-2 draw against Hull City at home on Saturday, causing them to fall even further behind Jose Mourinho’s side.

Mourinho’s Blues have been exceptional since the start of the season, and continued their good run with another victory on Saturday, beating Crystal Palace away from home.

Arsenal are now sat in seventh place in the Premier League after eight games, and Wenger believes that improvements have to be forthcoming if his side want to challenge for the title.

He said: “Of course [it’s a concern]. I cannot say it’s not a concern, it’s a big concern because the other teams have won their games and we haven’t.

“I cannot say it’s not a big concern.”

Hull led the game going into the last minutes of the clash, and could have come away from north London with a 2-1 win and all three points.

The Emirates Stadium side were only saved by a late strike from Danny Welbeck, with the £16 million signing continuing his recent goalscoring form.

Arsenal Boss Confirms Plans To Sign Defender In January – reports

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed that the Gunners will look to bring in a new defender during the January transfer window, as reported by the Daily Mirror.

The north London club recruited heavily in the summer, but fans were left disappointed at the end of the transfer window when Calum Chambers was the only defensive addition.

Chambers joined the club from Southampton for £16 million, and has impressed since the start of the new season.

This recruitment strategy has looked increasingly short sighted, with Arsenal suffering a huge raft of injuries to their back line.

Mathieu Debuchy remains injured, and likely will do until the new year, with Laurent Koscielny and Kieran Gibbs also missing chunks of the campaign.

However, Wenger confirmed at the club’s annual general meeting today that the club would look to bring in another defender in January, which will be music to the ears of Arsenal fans.

He said: “We bought good players, I believe we’ve done remarkably well in the transfer market.

“We wanted one more player, but couldn’t. We will try to rectify that in January.”
