Ex-Chelsea Boss Confirms Talks With Liverpool Over Manager Job

Former Chelsea manager Andres Villas Boas has confirmed that he has held talks with Liverpool over the managerial post.

Villas Boas is currently in charge of Zenit St. Petersburg, having left Tottenham Hotspur last season.

His time at the Russian club has been a success, and as a result, clubs in England are once again looking at him as a potential appointment.

While his first season at Spurs went exceptionally well, with the club only just missing out on the Champions League, he failed to deal with the departure of Gareth Bale and was ultimately replaced by Tim Sherwood as manager.

Liverpool have been struggling in the Premier League this season, with boss Brendan Rodgers under increasing pressure.

They also exited the Champions League prior to the knockout round, a significant disappointment.

The Anfield club are said to have been talking to Villas Boas over taking the job, and the former Porto manager has confirmed that to the Portuguese press.

He said: “I had talks with Liverpool. Returning to England definitely not in my plans, although life takes many turns.”

Liverpool Look To Replace Rodgers With Ex-Chelsea Boss In Surprise PL Return – reports

Liverpool are reportedly chasing former Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur boss Andres Villas Boas to replace struggling manager Brendan Rodgers.

The Times are reporting that Fenway Sports Group (FSG), who own Liverpool, have asked the Portuguese manager to provide them with details of his coaching principles and methods ahead of a possible appointment.

Villas Boas will almost certainly oblige them, having famously ruled himself out of the Burnley job several years ago by providing an overly complicated Powerpoint presentation to the board.

The ex-Chelsea man is now reportedly the leading candidate to replace Rodgers.

Part of FSG’s plans for Liverpool require constant qualification for the Champions League, something that looks unlikely for Rodgers’ side currently.

Villas Boas has undergone a rehabilitation of his reputation since leaving Spurs, with Zenit St Petersburg, his current side, storming to the Russian league title.

Liverpool aren’t even considered true title challengers after the weekend’s goalless draw against Sunderland, despite finishing second last season.
