Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera has told the press that the squad feels it is too long since the Old Trafford club last won the FA Cup, as reported by ManUtd.com.

The Spain international hit a stunning strike home on Sunday to break the deadlock against Yeovil Town, putting the Red Devils on their way to a 2-0 win in the third round of the cup.

Their place in the fourth round was confirmed by a strike by Angel Di Maria after a good counter attacking move.

Assistant manager Ryan Giggs, who played for Man Utd when they last won the competition in 2014, has been stressing to the side that it has been too long since they last won the most coveted knockout competition in English football.

This has fed through to the likes of Herrera, who now understands the importance of the competition, and wants to win it badly as a result.

He said: “Ryan Giggs said to us two days ago that we should not be [over] 10 years without this title. Of course we are going to try to win, even though we know it will be very difficult.

“All the teams in England are ready to win this competition but, of course, we are Manchester United and we have to try to win this competition.

“We are happy, of course, because we won [against Yeovil], but I think we could have done it better in the first-half.

“Then, in the second half, we tried to give the ball more and be more patient. Of course, we are happy about the FA Cup which is, as I said before, a very, very emotional tournament.”

Manchester United’s summer signing Ander Herrera could see his time at Old Trafford cut short, with the player possibly departing in the winter transfer window, as reported by the Daily Express.

This will come as a huge shock, with Herrera having only joined the Old Trafford club in the summer.

The Red Devils paid a staggering £28.5 million to bring him in from Athletic Bilbao.

However, injuries and other signings have combined to limit his appearances for Louis van Gaal’s side.

Herrera has played five times in the league, and of those games, four came during the first six games of the season.

He has played just 45 minutes since the end of September, when he was replaced at half time during Man Utd’s 2-2 draw with West Bromwich Albion.

Reports in Italy are now suggesting that Herrera could depart in January.

Van Gaal is reportedly keen to improve his midfield further and will sacrifice his summer signing to achieve that.
