Arsenal star Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has credited the club’s English stars for the recent success of the national side, as reported by the Daily Star.

An Arsenal foursome all started in the national side’s win against San Marino on Thursday night, with Danny Welbeck, Jack Wilshere, Kieran Gibbs and Calum Chambers all beginning the game against the European minnows.

Oxlade-Chamberlain was also involved in the tie, coming on as a substitute at half time in the game.

The Arsenal winger was impressive during his 45 minute spell on the pitch, and Welbeck continued his recent goalscoring form by netting for Roy Hodgson’s side.

Wilshere also belied his recent form by playing well in the centre of the park, and there was the spark of old to his game, although the challenge was not particularly fierce.

The north London club have set about establishing an English presence in their squad in recent years, and Oxlade-Chamberlain believes this will benefit the Three Lions.

He said: “When you’re with your team-mates at club level day-in, day-out, you understand each other and you can take that into international football.

“If you find five of your team-mates in the squad it helps on the pitch and also gives you that togetherness off it as well.

“You can say the same about Liverpool as well because they have four players here.

“I find that really good because it helps when you come onto the pitch and you know each other well.

“We’ve grown up together in the under-19s and under-21s as well so we know each other really well and that’s good going forward.”
