Confirmed Leeds XI: Brazilian Sensation Misses Out On Start

Leeds United travel to Birmingham City for the 12:15 Championship kick off today, and Neil Redfearn has confirmed his starting eleven for the game, the second of his spell as caretaker manager.

The headline news is that young Brazilian star Adryan Tavares only manages a place on the bench, having joined Leeds shortly before the transfer window shut. Adryan is highly regarded in his home nation, but has failed to impose himself at a high level since emerging onto the scene as a youngster.

Elsewhere, Gaetano Berardi is restored to the starting line up, having missed out on a series of games as a result of suspension and injury. Leeds fans will be hoping he does not have another moment of madness like he did during the game against Accrington Stanley, with a violent tackle there earning him a three match ban.

Aside from that, Leeds have picked the same side that beat Bolton 1-0, with Billy Sharp and Mirko Antenucci set to continue their partnership up front.

Leeds Sporting Director: Negotiations Continue For Brazilian Wonderkid

Leeds United sporting director Nicola Salerno has commented that Leeds are continuing their negotiations for the signature of Adryan, the Brazilian youngster who has previously been given the nickname the ‘new Zico’, as reported by Emanuele Giulianelli.

Adryan signed a loan agreement with Cagliari last season, joining them temporarily from Flamengo, with Massimo Cellino negotiating an offer to permanently buy the 19-year-old. The Leeds owner reportedly rates the Brazilian very highly, and was keen to bring him into Elland Road.

Giulianelli did, however, also say that Leeds have not yet reached an agreement with either Cagliari or Flamengo over the move, and that the deal is complicated by the fact that there are three teams involved with arranging it.

Adryan would have to have his loan with Cagliari terminated before a separate agreement with Flamengo is reached over his transfer.

The youngster was previously scouted by a host of top sides in Europe, with a move by Manchester United being rebuffed by the player himself.

His pedigree led to him being given several nicknames, including the ‘New Zico’, the ‘New Kaka’ and being compared to current Brazil hero Neymar.

‘The New Kaka’ Wants Move To Leeds – Reports

Adryan, regularly dubbed ‘the new Kaka’ throughout his career in Brazil, is keen on a move to Leeds United, as reported by Simon Austin, journalist for The Sun and other sources.

The talented midfielder moved to Massimo Cellino’s Cagliari last season, but he is keen on moving to England to join the Whites.

Cellino is apparently a big fan of the Brazilian youngster, who impressed as a youth team player in his home country.

He has previously been targeted by Manchester United, Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Adryan’s agent will meet Cellino at Elland Road tomorrow.

The new Leeds owner told Simon Austin:
“The player wants to come to Leeds, that’s not the issue.

“I know him well and he is a special talent.

“But this is a complicated deal. There is still talking to do with Flamengo and the player’s agent.”

Leeds were much improved in their second clash of the Championship season, and despite a tricky start to the match, they went on to win 1-0 through a late goal from new signing Billy Sharp.

Hockaday today spoke of a handful of new signings he expected the club to make before the transfer window shuts, suggesting more business in the coming weeks.
