£20m Price Tag Slapped On Key Arsenal And Liverpool Target

West Ham United manager Sam Allardyce has slapped a huge £20 million price tag on defender Winston Reid.

This will come as a blow to both Liverpool and Arsenal, who have been tracking the New Zealand international ahead of the January transfer window.

Reid’s contract with West Ham expires at the end of the season, and as a result, there had been hopes that he would be available on a cut price deal in the winter transfer window, with a belief that the Hammers would not be willing to lose him for free.

That has not, however, turned out to be the case.

Allardyce is not willing to see him depart for anything less than his true value.

“He isn’t going anywhere,” the West Ham boss said. “Unless someone bids £20million or something like that.”

With the east London side flying high in the Premier League, the 26 year old defensive brute could be tempted into staying at the end of the campaign, but that represents a significant risk for Allardyce.

Allardyce added: “If somebody flirts around with a measly offer because he is in the last year of his contract, we would make more money by keeping him and finishing where we are in the league than selling him and putting our good season in jeopardy.”

Clubs may now be tempted into waiting until the end of the campaign to capture the centre back, who has made 105 appearances for West Ham in four years.

Arsenal And Liverpool Blow In Hunt For PL Star – reports

West Ham United are expected to confirm a new contract for central defender Winston Reid in the coming weeks, as reported by fichajes.net.

This will deal a blow to Arsenal and Liverpool, who had been hunting the defender in recent months in an attempt to shore up their respective leaky backlines.

The Hammers have had an exceptional start to the new season in the Premier League, with Sam Allardyce leading them to a surprise place in the top four at this early juncture, and Reid is clearly keen to stay with his current side.

As a result, he is expected to sign a new contract that will run until the 30 June 2019, for four years.

Reid will also become one of the highest paid players in West Ham’s side.

While Reid was impressed by the interest from the two Premier League giants, he has instead decided to stay with the east London side.

PL Rivals Chase Long Term Elegant £7M Arsenal Target – reports

West Ham United have reportedly entered the race to bring Celtic defender Virgil van Dijk to the club, as reported by Talksport.

This puts them in direct competition with Arsenal, who have identified as Van Dijk as an apparent possible improvement to their defence, ahead of a potential move for the Dutch defender in January.

Arsene Wenger has identified his defence as the key position for recruitment in January, having suffered a spate of problems in the back line since the start of the season.

In fact, Wenger targeted Van Dijk for a move on deadline day, but the move could not be pushed through before the transfer window slammed shut.

Van Dijk has consistently impressed for Celtic since joining them, and as a result, several of Europe’s top sides have targeted him.

With Winston Reid’s contract situation worsening, however, and no likely renewal in sight, Sam Allardyce has seemingly turned to Van Dijk as a possible replacement.

This could see either side meeting Van Dijk’s reported £7 million transfer fee before the winter window shuts.
