Barcelona open to offers for Javier Mascherano

@awinehouse1

Guillem Balague is reporting that Barcelona are open to offers for former Liverpool man Javier Mascherano, which could put Liverpool and Arsenal on red alert.

Mascherano joined Barcelona a few years ago from Liverpool, and has played regularly for Barça since, primarily in the centre of defence. Luis Enrique’s arrival has apparently called an end to his time at the Nou Camp, however, with Los Blaugranas seeking to move him on. At times this season, his unnaturalness in defence has been obvious, with the Catalan side regularly shipping goals against the weaker sides in the league.

Arsenal could see Mascherano as the answer to a problematic situation which could see several defensive minded players leave the club.

Barcelona are also apparently open to offers for Dani Alves, Adriano, Alexis Sanchez (who scored a world class strike against Atletico at the weekend) and Pedro, who is one of few players to emerge from their season with credit.

Liverpool’s move for Emre Can threatened by legal battle

@awinehouse1

A possible legal battle between Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich could threaten Liverpool’s proposed £10 million signing of Emre Can, according to reports.

His contract includes a release clause, which Liverpool expect to match, but Bayern also inserted a buy-back clause into the terms of his transfer. At the time of his sale, Bayern stated that they expected to sign him back at some point in the future.

There has not, as of yet, been any contact between Bayern and Bayer Leverkusen regarding the clause, but the issue surrounds the two conflicting deals between Emre Can and Leverkusen and the second deal between Bayer and Bayern themselves. Bayern’s clause would remain active throughout any transfer process, in spite of any interest from elsewhere.

Rogers and Liverpool are keen to make Can their first signing of the window, with the versatile 20-year old considered an important addition to a squad set to take part in the Champions League. The fear now is that should Bayern express an interest and meet the terms of their buy-back clause, Liverpool would be cast aside.

Leverkusen expect Emre Can to sign for Liverpool

@awinehouse1

Liverpool’s continued interest in Bayer Leverkusen’s Emre Can is set to pay off, with Stefan Klüttermann of the Rheinischen Post reporting that the German side expect him to join Liverpool in the near future.

Leverkusen are apparently braced for a €12 million bid that they would find almost impossible to reject. It would be more than double what they paid Bayern Munich for him only a summer ago.

The versatile player, who can operate both in midfield and across the entire back line, would be an invaluable addition to a Reds squad gearing up for the heavy test of a Champions League campaign.

Brendan Rogers’ close relationship with Can’s agent has apparently aided the swift nature of this business.

He would likely be seen as a successor to Gerrard in the deep-lying playmaker role, given both his talents and his young age, and Gerrard’s relative inexperience in the role. Gerrard, however, did operate well when played there this season, so the future may be in mind when discussing Can’s role.

Having represented Germany at most youth levels, Can hopes to find his way into their national side in the near future, eschewing his Turkish ancestry. A move to the Premier League would possibly improve his chances, especially given the level Liverpool seek to operate at going forward.
