Arsenal Scout £15m Central Defence Ace – reports

Arsenal are set to move for Schalke defender Benedikt Howedes in an attempt to fix their broken defence.

The Gunners have been roundly criticised for their defensive displays this season, with many believing that their defence is, in part, at fault for their current league position, which sees them sat in sixth.

It has arguably been a long running problem for the Emirates Stadium club.

But injuries have been particularly problematic this season, with the likes of Mathieu Debuchy and Laurent Koscielny, both first choices, being ruled out for large swathes of the campaign.

As a result, they have turned to Howedes to fix the defensive unit, according to the Sunday People.

The north London side scouted Howedes as he helped Schalke beat Stuttgart 4-0 last weekend.

The 26 year old has two years left on his contract, but he is known to be a friend of Per Mertesacker’s, and his versatility is thought to appeal to Wenger, given the number of injuries suffered by his side.

Howedes is comfortable at both left back and centre back and would command a fee of around £15 million, which the Gunners would be able to pay.

Liverpool Blow In Quest For Euro Wonderkid – reports

Bayern Munich have had the highly rated 15 year old midfield star Martin Odegaard involved in a session at the club’s training ground in recent days.

This will come as a blow to Liverpool, who have been consistently rated with a move for Odegaard.

Odegaard is one of the more highly rated young stars plying his trade in Europe today.

Despite the relative size of his current club, Stromsgodset, his inherent talent has attracted suitors from throughout Europe and in the Premier League.

The likes of Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United have all been credited with an interest in signing him.

Real Madrid and Barcelona are also thought to have been chasing his signature.

However, Liverpool seemed to be closest to signing him.

Odegaard is known to be a fan of the Anfield club, with both himself and his father having followed them since a young age.

Bayern’s interest will almost certainly come as a blow to Liverpool, however, with the German side being one of the most successful in the world in recent years.

It could, however, just be another stop on his recent tour of the continent’s leading clubs, which has also included Liverpool, as reported by the Daily Star.

Arsenal Send Scouts As They Step Up Chase For Playmaker – reports

Schalke star Julian Draxler has been on Arsena boss Arsene Wenger’s radar for several years, but the club have stepped their interest up to another level after sending scouts to go and watch him, as reported by the Daily Mirror.

The scouting trip comes with Wenger intending to test Schalke’s desire to keep their young star with a bid in the near future.

The Gunners sent scouts to watch Draxler during the draw with Maribor in the Champions League in mid week.

Having been suspended for several weeks, Draxler returned against the Slovenian side, and Wenger was keen to find out how he performed in that game.

Arsenal struggled in the London derby against Chelsea earlier today, with Diego Costa rounding off a calm and measured display from the west London side to give them a 2-0 victory.

Tempers flared on the touchline, with Arsenal boss Wenger pushing Jose Mourinho early in the game.
