Everton Boss Admits To Missing Out On Man Utd’s 25-Year-Old Dynamo

Everton manager Roberto Martinez has admitted that the Goodison Park club missed out on the signature of Manchester United midfield misfit Tom Cleverley this summer, and saw their target make a loan switch to Aston Villa instead, as reported by the Daily Express.

The England international had been targeted by Martinez in a bid to improve his side for the Europa League, but the move did not come to fruition for the former Wigan Athletic boss.

Martinez did, in fact, have Cleverley on loan at Wigan while he was manager there, and the midfielder impressed with the Latics before becoming a part of Man Utd’s first team.

Cleverley has become something of a figure of humour at Man Utd since his return to the club, with many doubting his ability. Martinez clearly thought he could improve a side that will be looking to finish above the Old Trafford club this season.

Regarding the failed move, he said: “Always on the last day of the transfer window opportunities arise and we looked at a couple.

“I felt it was an opportunity for us to add a player to bring something different but at the end it wasn’t right. It didn’t work out.

“We tried to look into a couple of opportunities, but they didn’t come off and the reality is they probably weren’t the right ones.”

Chelsea Keen To Sell £17 Million Star, With Premier League Destination Guaranteed

Chelsea are refusing to move Romelu Lukaku out on loan again, according to the Belgian international’s agent’s assistant, and the talented striker is keen to remain in the Premier League, as reported by Inside Futbol.

Everton are reportedly interested in bringing Lukaku back to their club, having had him on loan last season, during which time he scored 15 goals in 31 games. He spent the season before with West Brom, when he scored 17 goals in 35 matches.

Lukaku has repeatedly said he is keen to play regularly next season, and would be happy to leave Chelsea on a permanent basis if they can’t offer first team football to him.

Last season’s winners of the Scudetto in Italy have been repeatedly linked to Lukaku, while Arsenal and Liverpool have also been suggested as potential destinations in the Premier League.

It is the supposed interest from Juventus that Oscar Damiani Junior, who works for Lukaku’s agent Christophe Henrotay, was responding to, when he spoke to Calcio Mercato.

Junior said: “Chelsea [will] sell him outright. Juve were informed but, again, at present there is no chance for [Italian] clubs. It is really a shame not to sign him, because he is a great player.

“Will he stay in the Premier League? I believe so.”

England International Signs New Four-Year Deal With Everton

Ross Barkley has signed a new four year contract with Merseyside club Everton, as reported by The Guardian’s Twitter account.

Barkley had a breakout season last year with the Goodison Park side after a series of loan spells to lower division sides, such as Sheffield Wednesday and Leeds United.

Roberto Martinez was keen to integrate him into his side upon arrival, and Barkley’s consistently brilliant form earned him a place in Roy Hodgson’s England squad for this summer’s World Cup in Brazil.

Everton finished fifth in the Premier League last season, having repeatedly pushed for a place in the Champions League, with Barkley playing a key role.

The news will come as a boost to Everton fans, who will see their side compete in the Europa League this season.

Barkley spoke to the press having agreed his new contract, and said: “Signing a new contract is a dream. I’ve played for Everton most of my life. This is a big thing for me.”

Everton have also confirmed the signing of Bosnian international Muhamed Besic today, and maintain a keen interest in Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku, who looks likely to leave Stamford Bridge.
