Chelsea are leaving the door open to a £7 million bid from Arsenal for their veteran goalkeeper Petr Cech, with the player allowed to decide his own future when he has decided his time at Chelsea is done, as reported by the Telegraph.
With Arsenal sniffing around his signature, this means that the Czech international goalkeeper could make the surprise step of moving to Chelsea’s cross-city and Premier League rivals at the the end of the season.
While Cech’s contract with the Blues runs until 2016, there are doubts over whether he will be willing to stay with the club for that length of time.
He has fallen behind Belgian stopper Thibaut Courtois in Jose Mourinho’s pecking order, and he is not thought to be willing to keep sitting on the bench going forward.
Italian sources suggested yesterday that Roma were keen on signing him this month, but Mourinho does not want to part with him right now.
This might mean that the situation plays into Arsenal’s hands come the summer, if they keep chasing him.
Chelsea have agreed to loan out young starlet Todd Kane to Championship team Nottingham Forest until the end of the season, as reported by ChelseaFC.com.
Kane has been with the Stamford Bridge club for the last 13 years, since the 21 year old was a member of the under 8 side.
In that time, he has had success, earning an England Under-21 call up.
His first real taste of professional football came during a loan spell with Bristol City earlier this season.
He joined the League One side in November, and went on to make seven appearances for them as they push for promotion from England’s third tier.
Kane has now been snapped up by Stuart Pearce at Forest, with his side 11th in the second tier after a poor run of form.
They were one of the early season pace setters.
In terms of success at Chelsea, Kane was part of the under 18 side which won the FA Youth Cup in 2012, and he has previously been captain of the under 21 side.
Chelsea have stolen a march on Arsenal in the race for St Ettiene midfielder Rayan Souici, who has been dubbed the ‘new Paul Pogba’ by the press in his home country, as reported by the Daily Express.
The Stamford Bridge club have reportedly agreed a deal with the French side to bring him to west London.
They are also confident that they can push through his transfer, with completion set to occur later this week, showing Chelsea’s keenness to get the move wrapped up early into the January transfer window.
Previous reports have suggested that Arsenal were winning the battle for Souici, but their London rivals now seem to be in pole position to sign the Under-16 international.
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has reportedly offered Souici a three year deal to join the Blues.
The Portuguese manager is likely to turn to former teammate Kurt Zouma to ensure that Souici settles in well at Stamford Bridge.
