Southampton are set to challenge Arsenal for the signature of Porto midfielder Juan Quintero, as reported by the Daily Star.
Quintero was regularly linked to the Gunners last summer, and was thought to be high on his list of possible targets for a transfer.
However, a deal was never pushed through, and Southampton, who are challenging the north London side for a place in the Champions League next season, are now keen on snapping up the Colombian international, who impressed heavily at the World Cup in Brazil.
Quintero is believed to be valued at around £16 million by his current club, the Portuguese giants Porto.
Ronald Koeman might only push through a move for him in the summer, however, with the knowledge that he might have to rebuild his side if they fail to qualify for the Champions League.
The likes of Morgan Schneiderlin and Nathaniel Clyne, integral players at St Mary’s, have all been eyed up by some of the Premier League’s bigger sides.
