Manchester United are targeting a move for Paris Saint Germain midfielder Thiago Motta after the player officially requested a move away from the French champions, as reported by the Daily Express.
The Old Trafford club are thought to be keen on a switch, although they will have to contend with fellow Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur and Serie A champions Juventus.
Despite making 22 appearances for the Ligue 1 side this season, Motta is off form, and reports in France have suggested that he might be sold in the January transfer window as a result.
Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport is now reporting that the player has actually asked to leave the club officially during a meeting with the club’s hierarchy.
Motta would add the sort of steel that Man Utd have been missing in the middle of the park, and an experienced head for younger players like Ander Herrera to learn from.
Motta cost PSG around €10 million when they brought him to the club from Inter Milan.
