Arsenal and Liverpool are set to do battle with Borussia Dortmund for the signature of Benfica starlet Goncalo Guedes, according to the Daily Express.
The young talent has impressed considerably for Benfica’s youth sides in recent seasons, with his craft, vision and technique particularly notable.
His impressive performances mean that he has been compared favourably to his compatriot Cristiano Ronaldo by the press, despite the fact that Ronaldo started his career with Benfica’s fierce rivals Sporting Lisbon.
The Premier League duo could manage a bargain if Guedes lives up to his potential, with the player set to become available on a free transfer at the end of the season.
He has made his debut for Jorge Jesus’ side, and the Portuguese side will fear that he will move for nothing when his contract expires in the summer.
The extent to which he is rated by Benfica can be seen by the fact that his current deal has a release clause written into it, valuing him at a staggering £40 million.
Benfica will be hopeful of signing him to a new deal, but there will be a fear at the Estadio da Luz that the Premier League giants have already turned the 18 year old’s head.
