Manchester United have been given a stunning boost in their chase for Cristiano Ronaldo, after his former coach Mike Phelan revealed that he believes the Portuguese forward would definitely listen to any offer of a return to the Old Trafford club.
Ronaldo had his breakthrough period in his career in Manchester, and he is known to hold the club in high regard, with the fans not blaming him for his exit to Real Madrid.
Phelan is confident that Ronaldo would listen to any offer that the Red Devils made to him, having worked closely with him for several years.
However, he has admitted that he feels as though a homecoming for the forward would still be unlikely.
Phelan said: “Ronaldo loved his time at Manchester United and if Manchester United were interested in him again then he would listen to that because part of his career has come through Man United.
“But listen, he is where he is because of him being Ronaldo, and at the moment they’re successful, Madrid are successful. So I can’t see why he would think about coming back to Manchester United now.”
Man Utd have been linked with an £80 million swoop for Ronaldo, something they might explore again with the news that Gareth Bale is keen to stay at the Champions League winners going forward.
