Arsenal Expect To Complete £10m Defender Deal In January – reports

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has put Celtic defender Virgil van Dijk at the top of his January transfer window shopping list after suffering defensive problems in the first half of the season.

Wenger is exceptionally keen to fix a defence which has been suffering at the hands of a series of injuries and suspensions in the opening four months of the season.

As a result, The Sun is claiming that Wenger is lining up a swoop for Van Dijk in the new year.

Van Dijk has been valued at around £10 million, and Wenger is expected to make a bid of that value for the Dutch defender.

Arsenal are thought to have sent a scout to watch Van Dijk in Celtic’s surprise 2-1 loss to Dundee United on Sunday.

The elegant defender is also believed to be keen on a move to the Premier League, and a switch to Arsenal especially appeals to him.
