Chelsea Teammate: Courtois Can Be The Best Ever

Chelsea star Filipe Luis has claimed that his teammate Thibaut Courtois could go down as the greatest goalkeeper of all time, having watched his development closely over the last few years.

Luis even believes that Courtois is already a complete goalkeeper, showing the extent to which he rates him as a stopper.

Courtois is something of a new signing at Chelsea, returning to Stamford Bridge this summer having spent three seasons on loan with Atletico Madrid.

Last season, with Atletico, Courtois reached the Champions League final and aided his team in a sensational title victory in La Liga, beating both Real Madrid and Barcelona to the crown.

Courtois’ return saw him dislodge Petr Cech in net, becoming Jose Mourinho’s first choice goalkeeper almost immediately.

He then signed a new five year deal with the Blues.

Luis played with Courtois at Atletico, and followed him to Chelsea in the summer in a big money move.

The left back toldĀ The Sun: “Thibaut’s only 22 years old but, believe me, one day he will not only be the best goalkeeper worldwide, he will be the best goalkeeper ever in football history.

“I have seen the last three years of his development [at Atletico] and for sure he’s ready.

“When he joined Atletico I was amazed by his qualities and especially his maturity.

“And in those three years I have seen him train and play and that admiration for him has only grown.

“Last season Thibaut earned the title of one of the most important players in the world when he made the Fifa FIFPro shortlist.

“He is so complete, I don’t see any minuses, there’s actually nothing he can’t do.

“I just find him amazing. And that gives the defenders like me a lot of confidence.”

Luis added: “When he came to England there were questions about his physical strength and people thought he would find it hard dealing with the high balls.

“But, no, he is always there and we defenders know that, so that’s great for our confidence, too.”
