Best Still To Come From ‘Quality’ £30m Spurs Ace – Boss

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has declared that the best is still to come from Argentinian winger Erik Lamela, having seen his charge grab his first Premier League goal against Burnley at the weekend.

It was only part of a good display from the regularly criticised Lamela, with his curling left footed effort securing three points for the White Hart Lane club against a staunch Burnley side.

Lamela moved to Spurs for a huge £30 million last summer, in part with the intention of replacing Gareth Bale after his move to Real Madrid.

He failed to step up to that level, however, and featured incredibly infrequently under both Andres Villas Boas and Tim Sherwood.

However, his performances this season  have been better, and he finally made a telling impact in the game against Burnley at the weekend.

Pochettino believes there is more to come from his compatriot, however, and is looking for him to push on: “Erik scored a great goal but we need to have balance.

“Now he’s not the best player and before he wasn’t the worst player.

“We need to push him to improve because he has very good potential.

“We need to understand too that he is still young and when people arrive from different club and different language it’s always difficult.

“Now he needs consistency and have regularity in the season to show his quality.”
