Liverpool Turned Down £19m ‘Dream’ Move For Sergio Aguero

Manchester City star has previously admitted to dreaming of playing for Liverpool, as reported by the Daily Star.

The Reds were also on the cusp of signing him at the age of 17, but turned down the move after his club, Independiente, demanded a staggering £19 million for him, deemed to be too much for the Anfield side.

This was during Rafael Benitez’s time in charge of the Merseyside team, and Aguero said in 2006 that he dreamt of playing for Liverpool.

He said in 2006: “If I had to choose a league then it would be the Premier League.

“I have been a Liverpool fan for as long as I can remember and it would be a dream to play there.”

They were not the only Premier League side chasing him at the time, however, with Manchester United and Chelsea also keen on his signature.

Real Madrid, Juventus, Inter Milan and AC Milan were also thought to be chasing him before balking at the huge price tag.

Atletico Madrid eventually stumped up the £19 million fee for him, and they doubled their money by selling him to Manchester City for £38 million in 2011.

  1. Rick ‘Coco the clown’ Parry was the brains behind that. He also refused Rafa’s deals for Alves and Silva. What an idiot!
