Arsenal Eye Talented Veteran Holding Midfielder – reports

Arsenal have been put on alert after Lille star Rio Mavuba admitted that he was likely to leave the Ligue 1 side at the end of the current season, as reported by the Daily Express.

The Gunners lack a natural player in that position, having turned to the likes of Mikel Arteta in recent weeks to fill the hole, and it is expected that the north London side will strengthen their defensive midfield options in January.

Mavuba could fit the bill for Arsene Wenger, having admitted that he is unlikely to sign an extension to his contract with Lille before the end of the season.

Arsenal have targeted him before, and Mavuba was once considered to be a highly rated talent.

His career has not exactly gone to plan, but he is still well regarded by fans and experts.

He has also appeared 13 times for France, suggesting a certain pedigree.

Mavuba has previously told the press that Arsenal would be one of his favourite clubs to play for.

He told France Football: “It is the first time in my career that I am coming to the end of my contract and I don’t want to think about it.

“I asked my agents not to talk to me unless there is something concrete.”
