Man Utd Eye Up 22 Year Old Elegant Defender – reports

Manchester United are lining up a January move for FC Basel defender Fabian Schar, as reported by the Daily Mirror.

Louis van Gaal has reportedly identified central defence as the biggest problem in his side.

This is understandable, given their recent games have seen them turn to the likes of Paddy McNair and Michael Carrick to cover in the middle of the defensive units, as Man Utd have been so hamstrung by injury and suspension to their preferred players.

This means that the Red Devils are set to bid for a defender in January, with the club also targeting the likes of Mats Hummels and Bruno Martins Indi.

Schar has, however, emerged as the most realistic option for the winter window.

The 22 year old has been capped nine times by his national side, incredible given his young age, and has played 56 times for FC Basel since his transfer from FC Wil in 2012.
