Arsenal Prep For Talks Over £10m PL Defender Switch – reports

Arsenal are planning to carry out discussions with Manchester United defender Chris Smalling ahead of a possible January transfer, as reported by the Daily Express.

Arsene Wenger has identified Smalling as an ideal addition to fix his broken defence, and the England international has fallen out of favour at Old Trafford, making a transfer a possibility.

The Gunners have developed a bad habit of leaking late goals, as seen in their sudden loss to Swansea City at the weekend, and buying a new defender is therefore a huge priority for the French manager.

Smalling is within Arsenal’s budget too, valued at only £10 million by the Old Trafford club, and the Red Devils are thought to be interested in selling Smalling in January.

As a result, the north London side are hoping to sit down with Smalling and his agents to discuss a deal over the next few weeks.

Smalling is seen as an ideal addition due to his versatility – he can cover at centre back, right back and in midfield.
