Manchester United are set to reaffirm their commitment to Robin van Persie, with the Old Trafford club set to open talks over a new contract in the new year, as reported by the Daily Star.
The Dutch international’s contract expires at the end of next season, and as a result, Man Utd want to extend it.
To this end, they are hopeful of sealing a fresh agreement with the player which would add another two years onto his existing contract.
This comes as something of a surprise, given Van Persie’s current struggles.
His sensational first season, when he aided Alex Ferguson in winning a final Premier League title before his retirement, has been followed by a series of injury struggles.
He has summed up Man Utd’s malaise since the start of the season, struggling to turn in consistent displays.
Van Persie has been linked with a series of Turkey’s top clubs, but Man Utd are keen to renew his contract in order to not see him leave for free.
