Arsenal have begun talks over a potential £6.4 million deal for Dinamo Zagreb midfielder Marcelo Brozovic, as reported by the Daily Mail.
This has been confirmed by the player’s representative Miroslav Bicanic, who had previously said that he was set to hold talks with Arsenal in November.
Instead, in an attempt to hinder any deal being agreed between the player and Inter Milan, initial talks were instead held on Thursday.
Inter have already made an offer of £3.5 million, putting Arsenal on red alert about signing their long term target.
However, that offer is well below Dinamo’s valuation of one of their star players, and the Gunners are thought to be leading the chase for the player.
Brozovic is versatile and talented, and Wenger has earmarked him for a key role.
The French manager believes he will be ideal to play as a deep lying playmaker, offering protection for the back four.
The north London side could confirm a move before January.
