Arsenal have reportedly joined the hunt for long term Manchester United target Mats Hummels, as suggested by the Daily Star.
The World Cup winner is widely regarded to be one of the best defenders in world football today, and has been consistently targeted by Man Utd boss Louis van Gaal in recent months.
Van Gaal reportedly sees Hummels as the top quality centre back that his side is lacking, as evidenced by their defensive problems since the start of the new campaign.
However, Man Utd now face further competition for Hummels in the form of Arsenal, who seemingly see the 25 year old as a potential signing.
Arsenal themselves have suffered from defensive problems in recent weeks, and Hummels would be a huge improvement on the options currently available to Arsene Wenger.
Both clubs might find themselves disappointed in the end, with Hummels having repeatedly declared that he has no interest in a move elsewhere.
