Liverpool’s Move For Global Star Could Break Down – reports

Liverpool’s mooted move for former Barcelona star Victor Valdes could break down over the player’s refusal to go on trial with the Anfield club, as reported by the Daily Star.

Brendan Rodgers, manager of the Reds, is thought to have lost faith in current first choice goalkeeper Simon Mignolet, and has identified Valdes as an ideal option to provide competition and push for a first team berth.

The former Barca man departed the club this summer after letting his contract expire.

Valdes agreed a move to AS Monaco, but the deal fell apart after the player suffered a serious injury at the end of last season.

Despite Rodgers’s interest in the player, he is aware of the risk surrounding his possible signing, and wanted to assess the player in a trial at Melwood before confirming a deal.

However, the player is not willing to go on trial, and this could cause the oft mooted deal to collapse.

  1. But his agent says:“We haven’t rejected it because it [the story] is false. Neither Brendan Rodgers nor Liverpool have ever made us this proposal, at any time.”
The usual press speculation? If a story doesn’t exist, just make one up?
