19-Year-Old Arsenal Star Set To Make First England Start

Arsenal’s summer signing Calum Chambers is set to make his first start for England after being recalled to the national side, as revealed by Under 21s manager Gareth Southgate.

The defender was only called up as a late replacement after the injury suffered by Everton star John Stones, but it now seems as though he will play in the clash against San Marino tomorrow, as reported by the Daily Star.

This represents a big step up for the 19 year old star, who has played only nine minutes for the national side before his most recent call up by Roy Hodgson.

Southgate said: “It looks like Calum will play – that’s the right thing for him.

“No-one can say that playing at Wembley is not a brilliant experience – especially possibly getting a start depending on what Roy decides.”

It completes a staggering rise for the young starlet, who has emerged as one of the most highly rated defenders in the Premier League.

Chambers made a shock switch in the summer, moving from Southampton, where he began his professional career, to north London club Arsenal for £16 million, a deal that was concluded rapidly.
