City’s somewhat shaky defence has become a source of consternation to the club, and they have identified the left back berth as a problem.

The club are supposedly willing to offer big money to bring Alba in, despite the interest from Man Utd.

Alba is regarded as one of the world’s best at left back.

Barcelona paid €14 million to sign him from Valencia in 2012.
