Revealed: New Face On Man Utd Shortlist To Fix Broken Defence

Manchester United have added Neven Subotic to their list of possible defensive recruitments, having been turned down by his Borussia Dortmund central defence partner Mats Hummels in recent days, as reported by the Daily Express.

The German World Cup winner has been repeatedly linked with a move to the Old Trafford club since the start of the summer, with Louis van Gaal thought to be a big fan of the elegant defender.

However, Hummels declared yesterday that he was not particularly keen on a move away from Dortmund, believing that he already earns enough at the German club to not have any interest in a switch elsewhere.

He said: “It’s nice to hear that big clubs like that are interested in you.

“I take that as a compliment. But it doesn’t influence me in any way, otherwise. We earn enough here in Dortmund.

“There will always be someone who can pay more than BVB. But Dortmund have made a lot of progress during my time here. In any case: I believe that it’s enough for me.”

As a result, reports are now suggesting that Man Utd are interested in a move for Subotic, who has impressed consistently alongside Hummels.

They are also thought to be interested in Aston Villa star Ron Vlaar.

Man Utd’s defensive woes are well documented, and it is thought to be a key area for improvement in January.
