Manchester United are said to be tracking West Ham United star Winston Reid ahead of a possible move for the New Zealand international defender in January, as reported by the Metro.
The Old Trafford club’s defence has emerged as a significant problem since the start of the new season, which has seen Man Utd put together indifferent form since the campaign kicked off.
Despite pre season positivity surrounding the appointment of former Bayern Munich and Barcelona boss Louis van Gaal, the Dutch boss has led the club to only two competitive wins.
They have also suffered humiliating losses against MK Dons and Leicester City, losing 4-0 and 5-3 respectively.
There are now suggestions that Man Utd see Reid as an ideal option in defence, although a January move might be delayed in favour of signing him as a free agent when his contract expires next summer.
Reid has emerged as a consistent defender since joining West Ham in 2010.
