West Ham United manager Sam Allardyce has panned Manchester United for not backing David Moyes last summer in the transfer market, as reported by the Daily Express.
The former Everton manager took charge of the club after the retirement of Alex Ferguson, and was considered to be his hand picked replacement.
He was ultimately sacked by the Manchester club after failing to put any consistent form together, leaving the club in April.
His spell lasted far less than a year, which contrasted significantly with Ferguson’s extended reign in charge of the club.
Moyes was ultimately replaced by Dutch boss Louis van Gaal, and the former Netherlands manager has been granted £150 million to spend this summer, choosing to use it on six new signings.
The West Ham boss has now questioned the logic of not giving Moyes similar support, given the size of the task he had ahead of him.
He told The Sun: “If I was sat at home in David’s shoes I would be wondering why they didn’t spend the 150 million pounds with me.
“There was a complacency by United in not going out and delivering the signings David felt he needed. Now there’s a panic on.
“It was a great shame because he’d done everything right at Everton and Sir Alex saw the fact he wanted to build at United like he had done at Everton.
“I’m not so sure anybody would have been successful in that season — history tells you that. Look at other examples, like when Brian Clough took over from a legend in Don Revie at Leeds and only lasted 44 days.”
