Schalke’s Julian Draxler has revealed that he wanted a switch to Arsenal in the January transfer window, with Arsenal thought to have put together a move for the player last season, as reported by the Daily Star.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is thought to have been tempted to put together a £17 million move for the young German star, but Schalke were said to have wanted £37 million for their highly rated player.
The 20 year old is now said to have wanted a move to the Emirates Stadium club, and it seems as though only Schalke’s demands stopped that from going through.
When asked about whether he wanted a move, Draxler simply said: “Yes.”
Draxler has also been linked to the likes of Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur in recent years, but the north London club have been consistently said to be his main suitors.
Arsenal won 3-0 at the weekend against the previously undefeated Aston Villa, belying recent criticism of their season.
