Van Gaal Criticises Record Breaking Signing’s Man Utd Display

Louis van Gaal has criticised the display of Angel Di Maria against Queens Park Rangers at the weekend, despite the record breaking Manchester United signing having scored and played a role in three of the side’s goals, as reported by the Daily Star.

The 4-0 win against Harry Redknapp’s QPR on Sunday represented Man Utd’s first win of the season.

Prior to the international break, they had struggled to play with any sort of fluidity, even going as far as to lose horribly to MK Dons in the second round of the League Cup. A 4-0 loss there had symbolised the extent to which the club was struggling.

After a huge outlay in the last weeks of the transfer window, however, they played well against QPR, who looked defensively poor and had little going forward.

Despite his key role in the display, however, Van Gaal was not enamoured with Di Maria’s display, saying that he lost the ball too many times.

Van Gaal said: “When you have a part in three goals and make the first goal yourself, then he can’t have played bad.

“But he had a lot of unnecessary losses (of the ball) so we can do better, even Angel Di Maria.

“You can say it is impossible to do better when you prepare three goals and make one yourself.

“But I am a trainer and a coach and reading the game and there are two or three things we need to improve on as a team.”
