Reports: Legendary Pass Master Turned Down Man Utd Move

Barcelona sat Xavi reportedly turned down the opportunity to make the switch from the Catalan giants to Manchester United this summer, as reported by the Daily Express.

There are suggestions in Spanish newspapers that the man who gave Xavi his Barca bow, new Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal, was keen on bringing him to Old Trafford.

The former Netherlands coach tried to convince the 34-year-old that a move to the Premier League this summer was to his benefit, but the Spanish star turned him down.

There was also interest from Bayern Munich once it became increasingly clear that the midfielder was keen on a move away from the Camp Nou.

Bayern are managed by Pep Guardiola, who, in his time in charge of Barcelona, helped turn Xavi into one of the most highly respected midfielders in world football.

Despite further offers from Qatar and Major League Soccer, Xavi ultimately decided to stay at Barca for another season, having been convinced by new manager Luis Enrique.
