Former Leeds Utd Starlet Set To Make 1st England Start – Reports

Former Leeds United starlet Fabian Delph is set to make his first start for England against Switzerland tonight, as reported by Oliver Kay of The Times.

Delph departed Elland Road for Aston Villa in the summer of 2009, but many Leeds fans still hold significant affection for the club’s former midfielder. He is considered by most to be one of the more talented players to emerge from the club’s academy in recent years, and there is a notable sadness that he never got the opportunity to do more for the Yorkshire side.

While his display against Norway on Wednesday last week was not exceptionally mind-blowing, England did look like a better side after he was brought on, and it seems as though the injury suffered by Daniel Sturridge has given him an opportunity to impose himself on the first team.

Delph’s introduction is likely to come as part of a switch to a 4-3-3, going away from Hodgson’s preferred 4-2-3-1 of recent months.

Raheem Sterling will have to play a key role for the national side in Monday’s game if they are to pick up a victory.
