Leeds Star Signs New Contract With Club – Reports

Matt Smith, who scored 12 goals in the Championship last season, has reportedly signed a new contract with Leeds United, as reported by Thom Kirwin of LUTV, the club’s in-house media channel.

Smith arrived on a free transfer from Oldham and impressed significantly in tandem with Ross McCormack last season. Early expectations were confounded as the 6 foot 6 striker went on to become a key part of the Leeds side, working well as the Elland Road club pushed for a play-off place in the first half of the season.

As the side started struggling after the new year, Smith continued to play well, emerging from the struggles as one of few players with any credit.

There were concerns that he would move on from Leeds this summer, with Championship rivals Millwall sniffing around and making an offer for his services. His existing contract was set to expire at the end of the coming season.
