Confirmed: Leeds Agree Transfer Fee For Promotion Winner

Leeds United have agreed a deal with Chesterfield for the transfer of defender Liam Cooper, who won promotion with the now-League One side last season, as reported by Chesterfield’s official Twitter account.

Cooper is now set to discuss personal terms with the Elland Road side.

Chesterfield have previously rejected two unique bids from Leeds for Cooper’s transfer, with Leeds having taken interest in the player following the friendly between the two sides earlier this summer.

An acceptable transfer fee has clearly now been agreed between the two parties, with Leeds set to sign the defender, as reported earlier, pending a medical with the West Yorkshire side.

Cooper has made 60 appearances since signing for Chesterfield in 2013, and played against Leeds in the Capital One Cup at the start of last season.

Leeds face a tie with Accrington Stanley in the competition tonight, having lost 2-0 against Millwall. Leeds struggled against the London side this weekend, very regularly being torn apart by the predicted Championship strugglers.

Cooper was identified as a target by sporting director Nicola Salerno, who Italian media sources suggest might be on his way out of Leeds.
