Sheffield Wednesday Target Leeds United’s Oft-Criticised Defender

Phil Hay of the Yorkshire Evening Post is reporting that Leeds United academy graduate Tom Lees has piqued the interest of Yorkshire Championship rivals Sheffield Wednesday.

The defender has become a stalwart of the team in recent seasons, having previously undergone a series of loan spells. He won promotion with Bury from League Two.

He was, however, regularly criticised by fans last season for his displays, and there is a sense that he may no longer be first choice at Elland Road. Scott Wootton and Jason Pearce began Leeds’s last pre-season tie as the preferred duo in defence, and they have continued that partnership into tonight’s clash with Swindon Town.

Lees has, however, travelled with the rest of the squad to tonight’s game.

Leeds have spent the summer looking for new defensive recruits. Jonathan Rossini seemed on the cusp of a move from Italy, but the move collapsed after he trained with Leeds in Val Gardena.

  1. Poor positional sense, too slow, one footed and not tall enough for a centre half. Ok as a League One player. If another club wants to buy him we would be mad not to get rid of him.

  2. Agree not pacy enough poor distibution
for some reason has not progressed as we thought he would , let him go killock a far better player

  3. Too much disrespect for a young player who has always done his best for the club. Maybe a move is best for everyone concerned, but he should go with our thanks and appreciation for all his efforts! And for your information, he had a pass success rate of 73% last season, better than many. Good luck Tom!

    1. Sorry Andy, shows how statistics can be misleading his passing is actually the worst part of his game at best it goes up field to be returned directly to us or is played sideways or backwards.

He has been personally reponsible for us conceding more goals than any other player at the club. Does try hard, probably a great guy but who cares he hasn’t developed in the last 3 seasons and is a poor defender (albeit MUCH better than Wooton).

If he were going to a better club than the nancies than I would wish him well & watch out for him favourably, if he does go there then I wsh him to be relegated & have a dismal future of misery.
