Manchester United Misfit Excited By Van Gaal’s Approach

Tom Cleverley has thrown his support behind new Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal, stating that he believes that he is the new manager’s sort of player, as reported by Goal.com.

The midfielder has struggled to impose himself at Man Utd since returning from a loan spell at Wigan Athletic. He has regularly been pointed to as symbolic of the Old Trafford club’s struggles to build a quality midfield in recent seasons.

Cleverley made 22 appearances in the Premier League last year, but with the Manchester side struggling in the Premier League under David Moyes, Cleverley also failed to impress.

He has, however, belief that he can do well under the now former Netherlands manager, and has pointed to Van Gaal’s side’s style at the World Cup as a symbol of how he can achieve.

Cleverley said: “I watched the manager’s Holland team in the World Cup and from that I think I’m going to be his type of player.

“I have to show that in training and, most importantly, games. I think there’s a place for me but I have to prove it.”

Manchester United won their second pre-season game of the summer against Roma last night, beating them 3-2. Cleverley was named captain in that match.
