Liverpool Linked Goal Hungry Forward Turns Down Premier League Move

The Liverpool linked Alexandre Lacazette looks likely to stay at Lyon this summer after turning down a move from fellow Premier League side Newcastle United, and the French side are confident of repelling further interest in him from the other sides keen for his signature, as reported by Inside Futbol.

There have been suggestions that Lacazette would be leaving the French side this summer after a series of clubs were linked with his signature, including Italian giants Juventus, but French newspaper L’Equipe have suggested that Lacazette has turned down a move to the north east side.

Liverpool have previously expressed an interest in Lacazette, with a source telling L’Equipe in April that: “It is assumed that Liverpool are among those making enquiries (with Lyon).”

The paper also said that Lyon are now confident that they can retain Lacazette, whose current deal expires in 2016, and are discussing new terms with their top goalscorer from last season. Lacazette scored 15 goals in 32 games.

Lyon are now expected to sell other players to raise funds, with both Clement Grenier and Samuel Umiti potential departures from Lyon. Les Gones are hoping to raise €20 million through selling players this summer, having finished 5th in Ligue 1 last season. Bafetimbi Gomis has already joined Swansea City on a free transfer.
