Arsenal Seek Signature Of Title Winning Defensive Behemoth

Arsenal are reportedly in the race for the signature of Angelo Ogbonna after Juventus decided they were seeking a quick sale, which has also piqued the interests of La Liga winners Atletico Madrid and Sevilla, as reported by the Daily Star.

The 26-year-old central defender moved to the Old Lady of Turin last summer but only made 16 appearances in the league as they captured the Scudetto for the third season in a row. Juventus signed the 6 foot 3 inch defender from their cross-city rivals Torino.

Reports in Italy suggest that new manager Massimiliano Allegri is hoping to move Ogbonna on quickly to fund transfers, with the hope of building towards a Champions League adventure and winning Serie A for the fourth year in a row.

Prior to Ogbonna joining Juventus last summer, Arsenal were interested in signing him, and could reaffirm their interest now that his price has taken a £500k hit. He moved to Juventus for £10 million but the Turin club are now willing to see him depart for a cut-price £9.5 million.

Wenger is hoping to boost his central defensive ranks after Thomas Vermaelen was repeatedly linked with a move away from the club, with Manchester United and Barcelona two possible destinations.

Ogbonna has received nine international caps for Italy.
