Report: Barcelona Agree €79.2m Deal For Liverpool’s Luis Suarez

AS are reporting that journalist Xavi Torres has heard that an agreement has been reached between Barcelona and Liverpool for Luis Suarez, with the Catalan club paying the Reds €79.2 million to bring him to the Camp Nou.

Suarez looks increasingly likely to leave Liverpool this summer, with Barcelona seemingly the only likely destination. His form for Liverpool last year attracted a series of suitors (such as Barcelona’s rivals Real Madrid) as the season ended, but with his infamous bite incident involving Giorgio Chiellini, it seems as though Barcelona are the only club willing to pay the significant fee required to capture him.

Suarez has been banned from all football related activities by FIFA for four months as a result of the bite, but this has not stopped Barcelona.

The Uruguayan hit-man missed out on his side’s elimination from the World Cup as a result of the ban, with Colombia knocking out their South American rivals. James Rodriguez of AS Monaco scored one of the goals of the tournament in the process.

Suarez scored 31 goals in the league for Liverpool last season, a sensational record given the fact that he missed the first month of the season due to suspension. Liverpool finished second, qualifying for the Champions League in the process.

  1. geez, calm down mido.

i came here from google, – reports elsewhere suggest barca will meet suarez release clause “around £80,000,000” (GBP) – but liverpool will not recieve ALL the money up front.

    – maybe liverpool will recieve £50-60million up front and ~£20mill spread out over a few further seasons.

    – i don’t think it’s performance based, just triggering release clause.

    – all we know is a deal has not yet been confirmed …but will be unless something strange happens.

£80mill is fair i think – cosidering he only plays 2/3 of the season being petulent.

    – we should really thank suarez for getting us champions league football.

    – down to rodgers now – in rodgers we trust.

    thank you luis.
