Juventus crowned Serie A champions

With Catania’s stunning 4-1 win against Roma, Juventus have been confirmed as champions of Serie A for the third season running.

Admittedly, it was already a long shot that Juventus would be pipped to the crown, but few could have predicted today’s result between Catania and Roma. Catania came into this round of fixtures as the league’s worst side going forward, but managed to put four past a side who will be playing in next year’s Champions League.

Roma set the league alight at the start of the season, going on an unbelievable winning streak that put them well ahead in the league. The likes of Gervinho and Maicon were in immense form that belied their recent past. It was no immense surprise that they tailed off. Roma have managed to put together a record points haul in the league, but will still miss out.

Juventus, as they have done since Conte became manager, just kept ticking over. Tevez and Fernando Llorente have been in good form all season, and the addition of Pablo Osvaldo in January helped them over the line. A third Serie A in a row symbolises Conte’s position as one of the more exciting managerial prospects in the world today.

Roma welcome Juventus to the Stadio Olimpico next week, and the away side will arrive as champions.
