Douglas, the Brazilian/Dutch centre back that Newcastle were heavily linked to in the summer, has been made available by FC Twente, according to Dutch sources. Voetbal International has today said that FC Twente are willing to work with other clubs to carry out the transfer of Douglas.
Where a bid of several million was required in the summer, this is likely no longer the case, with Douglas’s deal set to expire at the end of the season. Given Newcastle’s shortages in the middle of defence, it would make sense for Newcastle to press home with their interest for the 6’4″ player.
Douglas was nominated for the UEFA team of the year in 2010.
